What you’ll be doing:

Work with CM Group management and others in the Accounting and Finance Department to prepare company financial statements and reports related to any one or more of the following areas: regulatory compliance, operational.

On any given day, you’ll:

Job responsibilities will include any one or more of the following areas:

 

  • Tax
  • Prepare/oversee premium tax returns and make annual and installment payments.
  • Prepare/oversee corporate income tax returns for select states.
  • Prepare/oversee municipal tax filings on a quarterly/annual basis.
  • Oversee federal 1099 filings to ensure filing is complete and accurate.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Complete/oversee data request calls for insurance departments, statistical services, rating bureaus, residual market pools, etc.
  • Review/pay surcharges and recoupments and reconcile the associated general ledger accounts.
  • Coordinate annual regulatory filings to the state insurance departments.
  • Prepare/review schedules, as needed, for statutory annual statement.
  • Operational
  • Prepare and maintain company equipment records and prepare equipment depreciation reports using FAS software.
  • Prepare/review journal vouchers as assigned.
  • Perform account reconciliations as assigned.
  • Handle all transactions involving assumed/ceded reinsurance.
  • Complete tasks as part of preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements.
  • Investment
  • Enter/review investment transactions into investment software.
  • Prepare/review investment schedules in statutory annual statement.
  • Reconcile investment activity.
  • Treasury
  • Reconcile and monitor bank account activity.
  • Perform daily pay process for direct payments from bank accounts.
  • Oversee unclaimed property process and reconciliation.
  • Expense Analysis and Budgeting
  • Participate in coordinating the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
  • Review monthly actual results versus budgets and forecasts and perform expense analysis to identify potential trends or irregular spending.
  • Provide business unit and financial management with actual-to-plan variance analysis and work with business units to identify causes and proposed resolutions of variances.   
  • Identify and communicate risks and opportunities associated with the results of expense analysis.
  • Miscellaneous
  • Document procedures, as necessary, for the accounting procedure manual.
  • Oversee completion of department special projects.
  • Assist with financial and tax audits.
  • Mentor/lead staff accountant positions.

Here’s what we expect

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
  • CPA and/or CMA certification required. May consider significant accounting/finance experience within the property/casualty industry in lieu of a certification.
  • Minimum of three years' statutory accounting experience required, preferably in the insurance industry.
  • Evidence of ability to effectively organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines or requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels.
  • Sound judgment and effective decision‑making skills.

Exact compensation will vary based on consideration of a variety of factors including education, skills, experience, and location.

Minimum Compensation

USD $82,700.00/Yr.

Maximum Compensation

USD $124,100.00/Yr.
