Direct and oversee the operations of a specific line of business to ensure the compliance of operational, financial, production, and service requirements and the achievement of optimum claim outcomes. Collaborate with senior claims leadership to provide strategic direction in support of operational goals and business objectives. Supervisor responsibilities to include staffing, training and development, performance management, and work force planning.
Supervisor/Manager responsibilities may include all of the following:
• Staffing needs, to include interviewing and onboarding for new employees.
• Training and development, as well as coaching and motivation, for staff.
• Performance management, goal setting, employee engagement, and salary administration.
• Work force management to include: unit equipment, software, and space needs; approving time off and overtime usage; and budget recommendations.
• Oversee claim activity and workflow to maintain the highest level of professional customer services and technical standards as well as the timely settlement of claims and acceptable closing ratios for the line of business.
• Ensure each unit is meeting the expectations as defined through the unit's best practice guidelines and in compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
• Develop, recommend, and manage the operating budget for the Claims Units in meeting the overall goals and objectives of the Claims Department.
• Provide oversight on expense control in accordance with the unit's policies, practices, and procedures.
• Oversee all claims processes, procedures, and changes in accordance with company guidelines.
• Authorize settlements up to designated authority limits and submit recommendations to designated officials for those claims in excess of authority level.
• Ensure claims staffing models, hiring and retention, and productivity numbers are in compliance with company standards.
• Identify and monitor areas of potential business risk, recommending strategies and solutions to mitigate the risk.
• Monitor regulatory and legislative issues related to claims handling areas; develop and recommend the implementation of policies and procedures that comply with regulatory and statutory guidelines, rules, and standards.
• Mediate complaints and disputes regarding claim resolution.
